Side A — The band
Deja Nu is a Vancouver soul, funk and R&B band built around its horn section — saxophone, trumpet and trombone, all three played by women, arranged tight and mixed loud.
Behind them: Chuck Johnson on lead vocals, a Hammond B3 filling the middle, and a rhythm section that keeps the floor moving. The set runs through Stax and Motown, Philly soul, seventies funk and the modern R&B that owes all of it. It's written for dancing, and it's played loud.
